Bidford-on-Avon St John Ambulance Cadets
The purpose of the group is to learn first aid and to administer it at public events. Boys and girls between the ages of 10 to 16 gain knowledge in a variety of subjects and may achieve bronze, silver, gold and Grand Prior awards. They have the opportunity to gain leadership skills, to perform in shows, and to go on camping holidays.
The order of St John was founded over 100 years ago where there is still an eye hospital. The St John Association was set up to train people in first aid and ambulance aid in1877. The St John Brigade was set up in 1887 to administer first aid to the public. The Cadets was formed in 1922 for boys and girls in 1922. Bidford-on-Avon St John Ambulance Cadets started in 1966. For younger children between 5 and 10 Badgers groups were formed in 1987.
